Cleanse FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

A cleanse or detox program is simply a systematic approach to help the body remove toxins that are stored in body fat, tissues and organs.  Detoxification occurs naturally on a daily basis.

We all cleanse through our body’s own built-in detoxification process, through our liver, kidneys, colon and skin.  Considering the toxicity of our environment, lifestyle, chemically and genetically modified foods we consume, we realize our body may need the extra help that a cleanse offers to further detoxify our systems.

Toxins build up, which affects our overall physical and mental health, resulting in weight gain, and low energy, to constipation, bloating, headaches, and impaired immune functions. Symptoms of toxic overload include:  indigestion, poor concentration, sluggishness, headaches and poor skin quality.  Cleansers experience increased mental clarity and elevated yet stable energy; however, all experiences are personal and vary from one cleanser to another.

3 day – 5 day – everyday. You can cleanse any time of the year.  A cleanse is a great way to reset your eating habits and jumpstart metabolism.  We recommend juice basin cleansing a minimum of four times a year.  Seasonal change is the natural time to reset the body as it transitions.

At juice basin we believe that most of us can benefit from our organic cleanse that focuses a plant-based and predominantly raw diet containing active enzymes and nutrients. While you should always check with a medical professional if you have a pre-existing condition, it is important to choose a cleanse that supports your lifestyle and goals.

Contrary to gimmicky cleanse sellers and supplement detox pushers, juice basin’s five years of success resides in quality one-on-one client interaction and varied body nourishment programs.  Some of our recipes contain over 12 cold-pressed ingredients, to nourish your body and not starve it.  We never add any sweeteners, sugar or agave to our juices.

Eliminate processed food groups and animal protein from your diet 48 hours prior to cleanse.  Allow your body to also take a break from coffee, sugar, dairy, alcohol, and refined foods.  Do not gorge the night prior.  Clear your calendar for best results.

Coffee, tea and alcohol are addictive acid forming foods, best not to be consumed during your cleanse.  Eliminate these dietary choices prior to cleansing so that the effects of withdrawal do not impede the success of your cleanse.  If you choose to cold turkey caffeine, prepare yourself for a fast and furious headache, hip and leg pain, nausea, and flu like symptoms.  If however, you are unable to eliminate caffeine entirely, we suggest you let the body adjust to minimal caffeine intake, i.e. a demi tasse shot (2.5 oz). FYI, it is easy to confuse caffeine withdrawal with cleanse side affects.

Weight adjustment is a common effect of juicing, which will also bring the body back into balance.

The human body is not designed to digest the average American protein diet.  These foods are left undigested and often stored away in the form of tumors – both benign and cancerous.  Excess protein also acidifies the body, making it more likely to create illness, juice basin nut mylks are packed with protein and water-soluble fats to keep you satisfied and your metabolism going.  Our restorative greens contain absorbable proteins that reduce inflammation.

Juicing unleashes a burst of vitamins and minerals contained in whole vegetables, fruits, and nuts resulting in increased energy and weight loss. “The juices extracted from fresh-raw vegetables and fruits are the means by which we can furnish all the cells and tissues of the body with the elements and nutritional enzymes they need in the manner they can be most readily digested and assimilated.” – Dr. Norman Walker

It's important to be patient and breathe through these periods, call a friend or meditate.
